Introducing Our New Dashboard

5.12.2013 – It has only been a little more than two weeks until we released our huge update to CMS Commander v2, yet here we are already writing an article about another cool new feature that just went live. As we have announced we have completely redesigned and rebuilt our WordPress management dashboard, to make it even easier and faster to manage multiple WordPress weblogs with CMS Commander! Once you login to your CMS Commander account you will see the new dashboard right now and can start playing with it or keep reading to get an introduction to what it is and can do.

The best way to start with that is a big picture of the new beauty. Click to enlarge:

As you can see all your sites get organized in a big table. The many buttons each put an important management task right below your fingertips for your whole network. Once you hover over a button you get a popup tooltip that contains more information or allows you to take action. For example when hovering over the “+X%” stats button you can review all the Google Analytics data and visitor stats of your site or when hovering over “X New” Comments you can approve or delete comments immediately.

From left to right each row of the new dashboard has the following functionality:

  • Your site name. Click to view the site in a new window.
  • The key symbol logs you into your websites WP-admin with a single click.
  • The lamp symbol represents our uptime monitoring provided by Uptimerobot.com.
  • The stats symbol is Google Analytics. The percentage shows you whether traffic of your site increased or decreased during the last week. When hovering over the icon you get more details displayed.
  • The WordPress symbol shows up if a new version of the WordPress core is ready for installation on your site. Simply click the symbol to install the update.
  • The plugin symbol alerts you of available plugin updates and allows you to install them by clicking on it.
  • Likewise, the theme symbol shows themes that need an update.
  • The comments row shows up if new comments have been made on your weblog. Hover over the button to view them, delete them or approve them.
  • The drafts row shows recent posts in draft status. By hovering over the button you can view and publish them with a single click.
  • With the tool symbol you can put your blog into maintenance mode with a single click. Another click gets it live and online again.
  • Finally, the note symbol allows you to display and write a note or to do list for each of your weblogs by hovering over it.

At the top of each row you find one darker button that allows you to perform a bulk action. Like that you can update all your WordPress plugins and themes with a single click, login to all your WP blogs or quickly approve/delete all new comments.

Above the bulk buttons are several filter options: The search bar makes it possible to find any of your sites quickly. Simply start typing. Right of it you can choose to display all sites that require updates, have new comments or are reported as offline, so you can act fast.

One thing we should note is that the new dashboard requires a fairly large monitor to work well! With all rows displayed and all features active a browser resolution of 1200px would be recommended. If you have a smaller screen you can disable certain rows of the dashboard by pressing the “Display Options” link in the top right corner in order to improve visibility.

We hope you enjoy the new dashboard. If you find any problems or have any suggestions be sure to let us know.
